Marissa sent in this question. She’s looking for a compact, easy to get in and out of the car, inexpensive, double stroller and wonders if we have any recommendations.
Well, we used the Jeep Wrangler side-by-side umbrella stroller. When we started with our infants, we used a Snap ‘n’ Go inline double stroller with their car seats. But as soon as our twins were able to hold their heads up, we were able to take them out in this Wrangler side-by-side umbrella stroller.
Umbrella Strollers for Twins
The advantage of the umbrella stroller is that we were free from having to use the infant carrier car seats, which add a lot of bulk and heaviness to moving the twins around. The umbrella stroller is very easy to travel with, but you have to make sure that your twins are able to hold their heads up before you move there, because there’s no head support to keep them from flopping over, which would be dangerous for them. So after a few months of the inline stroller, we graduated to the side-by-side umbrella stroller.
The Jeep Wrangler stroller worked great for us. In fact, it was so durable that we used it for several years, and after that we were able to pass it on to another family, and it worked just great for them. We used it to travel by car, and we took it on several airline trips. It was great for pushing the kids around in the airport and then gate checking it right before we got onto our flight. It was great. It was very durable and just traveled well in the belly of the plane, no damage there. It was able to serve our family well.
One thing you need to consider is the space that you have in your car. You may want to measure the space where you will store this thing, if it’s going to be in the floor, or the back seat, in a small car in the trunk, or in the van. Make sure you have space to store it when it’s compact.
One disadvantage of an umbrella stroller is that it can’t carry much besides your twins. The Jeep Wrangler had a few little pockets you can stuff some things into, but not a lot of carrying capacity beyond just the twins, where many types of strollers have a lot more.

In larger strollers, you can throw in diaper bags and all kinds of gear. So think about what kind of storage you actually need to have in an umbrella stroller when you’re trying to decide which one is best for you.
