Helping Other Fathers of Twins

Joe Rawlinson by Joe Rawlinson - February 28, 2017

I recently got a comment from Ali. He says, “We often have fathers saying there’s nothing for them at the local multiple birth club. We have mostly women volunteering to do things in clubs and would love more men to help out.” And so he recommends that that’s a great topic to raise, and I completely agree. He says, “If you notice a gap in support services why not put in your hand to fill it so the next person doesn’t miss out? Volunteering is really good for the giver and the recipient.”

So Ali, I really appreciate you bringing up this topic for us, because this is a huge opportunity for fathers of twins. Most of the clubs, most of the discussions online are all about mothers of twins and multiples. And you know, that’s okay; that’s a huge opportunity for us as fathers of twins to step into that gap and help those fellow fathers of twins make it through this same journey that we’re on.

Dad with Twins

I mentioned back in episode 19 that you can find a local group for fathers of twins and you can do that by kind of piggybacking on these same local multiples mother’s groups that may be in your area. Here’s a complete list of every Twins and Multiples Club in the United States.

The Multiples of America is an association here in the U.S. You can find their website at nomotc.org. Usually each of these mother’s groups has an associated father’s group, which may be large or small, depending on your local branch. I definitely recommend that you reach out and support those who are coming along behind you in the journey. This could be in person, a local meet-up groups; it could be online. You can even check out our community on Facebook.

One of the whole reasons that I started Dad’s Guide to Twins and why I wrote the book, Dad’s Guide to Twins, was that there wasn’t a lot of information and help for fathers of twins when we found out that we were having our girls. And so I totally encourage you to pay forward to those around you who are having twins and help them in this journey so it’s not quite as difficult as it might have been for you.

This topic was originally addressed on the Dad’s Guide to Twins Podcast Episode 71: Twin Dad Commandments, Helping Dads, Gender Secret.
